The course text, Instructional coaching: A partnership approach to improving instruction by Jim Knight, really opened my eyes to the relationship-building aspect of instructional coaching. Getting to practice this and reflect on it through both the Individual Teacher Assessment and the Coaching Journal assignments was my favorite part of the course. Also, working within level teams gave me some great perspectives from other teachers at the elementary level.
In the future, I plan to recommend this book to other instructional coaches and inspiring instructional coaches in my building. I will continue to implement Knight's model for coaching, and I know that I will frequently refer to Learning Forward's Standards of Professional Learning as a framework for all of the professional learning discussions at our school.
